  Her hands moved over his body, smoothing over the muscles underneath the tailored shirt.

  He lifted her back into his arms and carried her over to one of the large lounge chairs set around the pool, the sunshine sparkling all around them as he kissed her. The pink sweater was pulled up over her head and tossed away before Sonya could protest. But when his eyes looked down at her, the pink and grey lace not hiding her reaction in any way, she felt powerful. This felt right.

  “You’re beautiful, Sonya,” he said and lowered his head to take her nipple in his mouth through the lace.   She didn’t mind his order though. Everything about this man fascinated her. There was strength in him, a power that wasn’t just the muscles underneath her fingers. She wanted to understand him, to discover the source of that power. Pressing against his shoulders, she leaned forward as he lay back against the soft cushions of the lounger.   Sonya sipped her wine, relaxed and mellow even though his strong hand was wrapped around her, his agile thumb resting just underneath her naked breast. “I’m perfectly fine,” She replied, knowing what he was asking but refusing to discuss the issue.

  His response was fast and effective. “Sonya,” he growled and nipped at her ear. “You were a virgin.” He rolled so that he was looming over her again. “I’d guessed that yesterday, but having proof now, I’m want answers.”

  “Answers to what?” Couldn’t he just ignore this subject? She felt too good right now.

  “Why are you embarrassed to discuss it?”

  She sighed and set her glass of wine on the table beside the chaise they were relaxing on. “Because I’m twenty-five years old and it seemed ridiculous that I hadn’t…that I never…” she stopped, trying to figure out how to finish that sentence.

  “Never found a man you wanted to have sex with?” he finished for her.

  “Yes.” She looked out at the mountains, wondering if he hated her for her omission. “I sort of told you,” she finally said.

  He sighed and kissed her bare shoulder. “I know. I guess I just couldn’t believe it was true.” Part of him was furious with himself for not realizing it sooner. But the past few hours had solved the mystery that was Sonya. And now he didn’t want to let her go.

  “Why me?”

  She laughed and he tightened his arm around her, his thumb slipping higher as if to punish her for her amusement. She quickly grabbed his thumb, trying to pull it further away but he wasn’t allowing her to control him in that way. The thumb stayed right there where he wanted it.

  “It isn’t really something that comes up in casual conversation.” Turning slightly, she looked up at him. “We haven’t really had much casual anything. You’re not a casual kind of man, are you Jual?”

  He understood what she was saying and yes, she was right on target. But now he had to figure out what to do with Sonya. Letting her go wasn’t an option.

  “You’ll have to marry me,” he announced.

  The words caused her to stiffen. Hell, he was pretty stunned himself. Where the hell had that thought come from? But the more he thought about it, the more he knew that it was right. He wanted Sonya. He wanted her in his life now and forever. Thinking of letting her go made him want to punch something.

  Sonya turned around again but he only lifted her higher, shifting her body so that she was straddling his hips. “This wasn’t exactly what I was trying to do,” she gasped when he settled her against him.

  Jual looked at her slender figure with curves in all the right places. Exposed. Open and vulnerable. “Looks exactly like what I wanted,” he replied.

  Sonya held her breath when his hand moved down her sternum. She shook her head. “You can’t make that kind of announcement and then just…” but he could! His fingers moved over her breast, tweaking her nipple.

  Was she going to marry him?

  No way.

  She felt him lift her into his arms and carry her back to the bedroom. Curling up with him in the enormous bed felt so right, she wanted to cry that the rest of her life would be so wrong.

  Slowly his breathing softened, became even and she knew that he’d fallen asleep. She couldn’t even close her eyes though. She wanted to run away, to go back home where she knew how to live her life. Unfortunately, she didn’t want to go there without Jual. Nor could she go there with him.

  Eventually, she fell asleep, but the worries plaguing her continued to haunt her in her dreams.

  Chapter 6

  Sonya woke the following morning feeling cold, as if something were missing. When she was conscious enough to realize what was going on, she looked around, realized that Jual wasn’t with her any longer. She was sleeping alone in the enormous bed. But when she lifted her head, she found him at the end of the bed, glaring down at her with his muscular arms crossed over his massive chest.

  “Is everything okay?” she asked, worried because he looked so angry. “Did something happen last night?”
